READING FOR SLICES: A COMMUNITY LITERACY PARTNERSHIP - Pilot Program

What is Reading for Slices?

We believe that thriving students build thriving communities! To encourage a lifelong love of reading, The Oven Pizzeria will partner with a local school to reward students for reading outside the classroom. By building daily reading habits, students earn a voucher for a slice of pizza (cheese or pepperoni) and a brand-new book to keep for FREE!

Highlights

Timeline: A 3-month program featuring a 4-week reading and tracking period each month, concluding with the submission of the Pizza Prep Sheet aka reading log.
The Reward: Students who complete and turn in their 4-week "Pizza Prep Sheet" reading log receive a voucher for a free slice of cheese or pepperoni pizza and a brand-new book to keep during Celebration Day!
Inclusive Approach: To support busy family schedules and celebrate effort, every student who turns in their log receives the reward, regardless of whether they completed every single reading session.
Zero Cost & Turn-Key: Books and pizzas are fully sponsored by The Oven Pizzeria at no cost to the students or schools. No purchase necessary.
Books: Through our partnership with the Scholastic Literary Program, our collection includes grade-specific books for participating classrooms, alongside a variety of Spanish-language titles.

How It Works

The 4-Week Routine:

Students Read (20–30 Minutes a Day): Encourage students to read their favorite books at home every day for 4 weeks.
Track & Initial: When the student completes their daily reading, have them color in their "Pizza Prep Sheet" and guardians/parents initial the week slot.
Turn It In: After 4 weeks, the students submit their completed sheet to their teacher. (Note: To celebrate effort and busy family schedules, every student who turns in their log receives the reward!)
Redeem & Celebrate: (CELEBRATION DAY) Teachers will hand out the official voucher so students can head over to The Oven and claim their well-earned prize!
